marsh madness.

whew... it's spring break! that means late night star gazing, drives with no destination, get togethers with favorites from home, and way...way too much delicious food. there may still be patches of snow on the ground here in massachusetts, but that didn't stop the sun from glistening all day yesterday, which allowed for a little spontaneous outfit shoot on one of my favorite roads in newbury. surrounded by this riverside town's breathtaking marshes, this winding road reminds me of summer, all year long. it's the route to boat rides, beach barbecues, and always offers the most mesmerizing view of a fiery sunset on the ride home.

it's been a little dream of mine for a while now to take this blog in a new direction, and one of those ways is to incorporate a little of my personal style. fashion is such a large part of my life, with this may marking my graduation from the fashion institute in new york city. so i've been thinking...why not share a little of my closet and style mentality? so here it goes... (fingers crossed!)

top: h&m (buffalo exchange) jacket: h&m (old) pants: adriano goldschmeid (buffalo exchange) boots: boutique in florence, italy

with high price tags on every street corner of nyc, i decided to be a little rebellious last week and check out a second-hand clothing store feet from my school. i walked in, and it was game over. within five minutes, my arms were weighed down by trendy tops, sheer tanks, and designer pants. and i'm still in awe over the prices. one-hundred dollars later, i had added a new sparkle to my tired wardrobe. a couple of the pieces i scored were these ag stevie ankle pants and fringe sleeve top...two picks i can effortlessly tie into my closet.

cowboy boots have always been an outfit staple for me (and twin!) they go with anything, and add a casual element to any look that can come off too dressy. my long affair with colored pants is no secret, either.

and twin.... i can't thank you enough for being the superstar behind the camera. you've got a real knack for this ;)

williamsburg.

dear weekend, thank you for being simply incredible. or should i say... dear melissa, thank you for coming to visit! it's a very sweet feeling to go months without seeing someone so dear to your heart, and to then have them grace you once again with their amazing, awe-inspiring, uplifting presence.
we really lucked out with the gorgeous weather that decided to show its face here in nyc, which allowed us to leave our winter jackets at home as we explored the soulful streets of my favorite neighborhood in brooklyn (and quite possibly in new york)... williamsburg. after a tasty mexican lunch for two, we stepped out onto the colorful streets and popped into boutiques and concept stores, all while this camera of mine was basically jumping out of my hands, screaming, "ooh stop riiiiight here!" or "is this actually real life right now?"
every inch of these streets is so effortlessly cultured and artful and inspiring. and that sunset behind the williamsburg bridge? well, that was basically like new york grabbing me and giving me the biggest hug. i'm impatiently excited for a summer here, with free time to explore and discover all that is truly amazing.
new york... you have done it to me once again. you've stolen my heart. i love you.

a little look around the apartment.

last friday marked our 'one month' here in our new brooklyn abode, and i must say... this place is finally starting to look like the kind of spot you'd want to come and stay a while. well, at least i would :)

lucky for twin and me, our third roomate (and dear friend) sarah has exceptional taste. see that fluffy pillow? yeah... that's mongolian sheep fur. need i say more? and she also has this amazing skill of finding adorable furniture on street corners. you know, like trash. that white chair is a DUMBO find, and it's west elm! i'm loving the eclectic, chic feel of our little space so far.
aren't twin's windows just darling?
it's been my dream to have a space with as much potential as this one. high ceilings, dark hardwood floors... oh the opportunities are endless ;)

people aren't pictures.

It's when you hold eye contact for that second too long or maybe the way you laugh. It sets off a flash and our memories take a picture of who we are at that point when we first know "This is love."

And we clutch that picture to our hearts because we expect each other to always be the people in that picture.

But people change. People aren't pictures.
And you can either take a new picture or throw the old one away.
